Five Indianapolis shops to check out for National Chicken Wing Day
July 29 is National Chicken Wing Day, as good as any reason to indulge in a pile of flats.
Indianapolis is home to some of the bests, including a spot that is expanding to Buckeyes and another that made a splash on the Food Network.
Check out these five Indianapolis spots to raise a wing.
1313 Eatery
4602 E. 10th St., Indianapolis
The star menu item here is Grippo Wingz, flavored for Grippo’s Bar-B-Q potato chips.The shop in July relocated from its 1313 N. Sherman Drive origin. Along with 1313 Eatery’s reopening is the return of 24-hour dining Thursday through Saturday.

The Block Bistro & Grill

Its signature Boomerang grilled jumbo chicken wings recently garnered high praise on Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race.”
Owner Terry Anthony has added a brown sugar and lemon pepper sauce option for the wings, which went over well with customers in the reality TV show competition.
Chicken Scratch

Chef Tia Wilson spun a takeout concept from her Chef Tia & Co. Cajun and creole restaurant since closed at 4955 W. Washington St.; and the shop was an instant hit with huge cooked-to-order wings in choices of house-made sauces such as honey hot, sweet chili and Cajun ranch; and crab alfredo fries.
Now Chicken Scratch is headed out of state, with Wilson opening a location in Cincinnati next month as well as a second Indy shop — this one downtown.

Not only are there several locations across town from which to choose, but diners can select from more than 20 sauces from bourbon to mango habanero to spicy ranch for their wings, tenders and sandwiches.
